Dear Franklin Basketball Families,
Our names are Tom Rontiris and Matt Walsh and we are the coaches of the 7th grade and 5th grade Boys Metro B Teams. As the basketball season begins we would like to make you aware of two particular players in our program and ask for your assistance in making this upcoming season as rewarding as possible for them. They are two brothers, Kyle (on the 7th Grade Metro B Team) and Luke Florio (on the 5th Grade Metro B Team). Many of you probably know Kyle and Luke already through their participation in Franklin Charger Football and Franklin Youth Baseball, but for those of you who don’t know Kyle and Luke, they are deaf. In order to provide Kyle and Luke with the same opportunities that are provided to all of our players (to develop as a player, to enjoy the team experience and to benefit from coaching and instruction), we are hoping to provide a sign language interpreter for Kyle and Luke so that they can communicate with their coaches and their teammates. For the past three seasons, through the generosity of a number of folks, we were able to provide an interpreter for Kyle for all 16 of his regular season and tournament Metro games (the cost of an interpreter is $50 an hour and we secure his services for two hours per game). Last year was Luke’s first in the Metro program and we were able to provide him with an interpreter for all 16 of his Metro games as well. Not only do Kyle and Luke benefit from having an interpreter at the games but so do their coaches and teammates as it helps communication between Kyle and Luke with their coaches and teammates during games.
Similar to past years, we want this year’s fundraising effort to be fun, casual and allow us to meet other members of the Franklin Basketball community. With the help of the FBA board and Kyle’s and Luke’s dad, Steve, we have put together a Night Out at Cole’s Tavern to be held on Tuesday, November 22nd (7pm to close). All proceeds from this event will be used to secure the services of an interpreter for Kyle and Luke. Most of our kids have the next day off from school and we are hopeful you will consider lining up a sitter and joining us. Our goal this year is to raise $4,000 (we estimate that will be the amount needed to cover all of Kyle’s and Luke’s games played this year). Tickets to the Night Out are $20 per person and are available now. Tickets can be purchased in one of two ways, (1) directly from either Tom Rontiris or Matt Walsh or cash or a check payable to Franklin Basketball Association ; or (2) you can go to the FBA website via the link provided below. What better way to kick off your Thanksgiving celebration (or prepare for the onslaught of your in-laws…) than with a fun, casual night out and the feeling of knowing you are helping a great cause, all for $20.
Beyond the donation received through the cost of your ticket, we will not be conducting any other fundraising activities at the event. It is simply a social night out during the holiday week for a great cause. However, all people who attend the event will receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win one of the following two items at no additional cost to the $20 ticket to the night out: 1) 4 tickets to a 2017 Boston Red Sox Regular Season Home Game and 2) 4 tickets to a Providence College Men’s Basketball Game for the upcoming season.
In closing, we understand this time of year is often when families are tightening their budgets as the cost brought on by the holidays can be challenging. However, if you can find it in your budget to make a contribution to our fundraising effort it would be greatly appreciated. If you are interested in purchasing a ticket or making a contribution please click on the link provided below. Please note, all donations made to FBA are tax-deductible.
Thank you and we hope to see you on November 22nd.
